Ronchi guilty of murder

SALEM —

A jury has found Peter Ronchi guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Yulyia Galperina of Salem, and the death of their unborn son.

A Salem Superior Court jury returned the verdict this afternoon, finding that the murders were premeditated and, in the case of Galperina, committed with extreme atrocity or cruelty.

The judge sentenced him to two consecutive life terms in prison.

Ronchi, 48, had tried unsuccessfully to convince jurors that he "snapped" on that night in May of 2009, claiming his girlfriend had told him the baby was not his, and so he should be found guilty only of manslaughter.
