Salem man found dead in fire

SALEM — A 53-year-old Salem man died in a fire that broke out at 5 Beacon St. early this morning.

Firefighters were called to scene at 3:32 a.m., where a crew conducted a search through the second floor based on reports the man was still inside, said Salem fire Capt. Alan Dionne.

The man was found deceased in the room where the fire was believed to have started, Dionne said. There were no working smoke alarms in the second-floor apartment, he said.

The name of the victim has not been released.
