School Superintendent Marie Galinski has announced that she will retire at the end of the school year in June.

Galinski has been superintendent for three years after serving as assistant superintendent for six years.

"After nine years in the district, I feel it is the appropriate time for me to pass the torch to another superintendent, one who will lead the district to the next level," Galinski said in a press release.

Galinski was a finalist for the superintendent's job for the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District before withdrawing from the process in January.

Her decision to seek another job surprised the Beverly School Committee, which had given her a one-year contract extension to June 2014 and a $6,000 raise last summer. Galinski's salary is $151,000.
