A man was given a summons at 7:59 a.m. for driving a vehicle with no inspection and with a revoked registration.
A woman was given a summons at 12:30 p.m. for driving a vehicle after license suspension.
Someone broke into a garage on Herrick Street. The crime was reported at 1:23 p.m.; no word from police about what was stolen.
A car hit a tree near 49 Thissell St. at 1:43 p.m.
The fire department was called at 4:21 p.m. for smoke on the train tracks near Park Street. The smoke appeared to have been caused from leaking battery acid from the train. Firefighters doused the area with water.
Police dispersed a large group drinking in front of the Unitarian Church on Cabot and Hale streets at 4:37 p.m.
Adam Marcus Jordan, 22, of 599 Cabot St., was arrested at 10:24 a.m. and charged with assault and battery and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The police log indicated that he had been fighting with his sister.
A man riding a moped scooter was charged at 6:54 p.m. with driving after license suspension and with defective equipment because his passenger was not wearing a helmet.
Police received a report at 7:31 p.m. from the residents of a Federal Street apartment that someone had broken in and stolen several DVDs and some costume jewelry.
Police placed a Salem man into protective custody at 8:11 p.m. for intoxication after the man had repeatedly pressed a panic alarm and called 911 with no emergency.
A man went to the police station at 8:12 p.m. to report that about three hours prior he was bitten on the arm by a man wearing a red shirt and jeans. The man was walking on Essex Street when the random man ran up and bit him, the police log said.
Nathaniel Jacques, 30, of 3 Skerry St., Salem, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (Swiss army knife), resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
A man reported at 10:10 p.m. that his wallet was stolen out of his vehicle. The victim had given a ride to another man from Gloucester, and when he left the vehicle to go in a store, he returned to find the wallet gone and his passenger running away. Police were not able to locate the thief.
A woman was somehow locked inside Public Storage storage facility at 2 Goodhue St. at 10:27 p.m. Police let her out.
A bike was reported a stolen from 231 Essex St. at 1:05 a.m.
An intoxicated man was placed into protective custody at 1:06 a.m. after he was discovered stumbling down Washington Street.
An intoxicated man was placed into protective custody at 1:12 a.m. after he was found in a backyard on Palmer Street.
A woman reported at 2:21 a.m. that someone threw an object that smashed the front window of a house on Perkins Street.
Planters in front of Salem Harbor Sweets, 85 Leavitt St., were thrown into the street, police reported at 3:56 a.m.
An assault was reported at 7:01 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy, 311 Newbury St.
