SALEM — Salem CyberSpace recognized 10 high school students during its second annual ceremony to honor graduating high school seniors who attended the CyberSpace after-school programs for academic help.
The ceremony was held last Tuesday night in Old Town Hall, and approximately 100 people attended the event, including donors, volunteers, CyberSpace alumni, and students and their families, according to Linda Saris, director of Salem CyberSpace, which assists lower-income youths.
"It had to be one of the most moving things I've been to in a long time," School Committee member Brendan Walsh said of the ceremony.
Walsh said some of the students immigrated to the United States "as little as three years ago, speaking no English."
"(Now they are) graduating from Salem High School and giving speeches in beautiful English," Walsh said. "It was absolutely stunning and moving to talk to them and their parents."
All 10 of the students will attend college next year, either at North Shore Community College or Salem State College, Saris said.
Salem CyberSpace is a program of North Shore Community Action Programs.
