Monday

Police and the Fire Department responded to a 3:24 p.m. report of a burning smell in the pharmacy area of CVS at 19 Dodge St. Firefighters determined that the smell was coming from roofing tar in an HVAC unit.

Sean Gilberto Ryan, 36, of 2 Pierce Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of larceny under $250 and a warrant after a 4:23 p.m. report from 498 Rantoul St.

A 4:38 p.m. report of a fight inside a car at 375 Rantoul St. resulted in the arrest of Johnathan Breda, 25, of 2 Father Jacoby Road, East Boston, on a charge of assault and battery.

A 5:48 p.m. report of a stolen computer brought police to 16 Thorndike St., but nobody answered the door.

Police conducted a traffic stop at Milton Street and Broadway at 10:18 p.m. and issued a verbal warning for an equipment violation. An officer saw a “large kitchen knife” on the floor behind the driver during the stop and took it for destruction. “Operator permitted search of vehicle for other weapons. No other contraband found.”

Tuesday

A 10:36 a.m. report of kids in an abandoned building brought police to 51 Simon St., where an officer issued a citation for marijuana possession to one person and advised them against trespassing. Another person, a juvenile, was transported home “and mother spoken to,” police wrote.

Police received a 1:29 p.m. report that a golf cart had struck a vehicle parked at 100 Sohier Road.

The Fire Department responded to a report around 7:30 p.m. of a possible chimney fire at 1 Beach St. Firefighters determined that it was a problem with a fireplace and there was no fire.

Police responded to a 6:06 p.m. report that a man had stolen seven North Face jackets from Macy’s at the Northshore Mall and fled in an Oldsmobile. Michael Spinelli, 36, of 17 Reservoir Road, Gloucester, was arrested on charges of larceny over $250, failure to stop or yield, and failure to stop for police.
