---- — TOPSFIELD — Police in Topsfield have arrested a man they say failed to register as a sex offender in that town.
Michael Miller, 48, who lists an address in Topsfield, was charged with one count of failing to register, following a traffic stop on High Street Extension early Monday morning.
Miller has been deemed a “Level 2” offender, deemed at moderate risk of re-offending. Details of the case that led to that designation were not available.
Later Monday, he pleaded not guilty to the charge during his arraignment in Ipswich District Court in Newburyport, where a judge released him on personal recognizance and ordered him to register with the town, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, whose office had sought $1,000 cash bail in the case.
Miller is due back in court Jan. 24.
