Former Keenan staffer is mayor's new chief aide

---- — SALEM — Mayor Kim Driscoll has selected Dominick Pangallo, Rep. John Keenan’s former chief aide, as her new chief of staff.

Pangallo will replace Driscoll’s longtime aide Jason Silva, who announced earlier this month that he will step down to become executive director of the Salem YMCA.

Pangallo is expected to start work in Salem on March 19.

A Salem native, Pangallo managed Keenan’s 2004 campaign for state representative. At the time, Keenan was Salem’s city solicitor. Pangallo was Keenan’s chief aide from 2005 to 2007.

Currently, Pangallo works as marketing and development coordinator for the nonprofit Partnership for Community Development in Hamilton, N.Y. He also holds elected office, as a town trustee, in Hamilton.

“I am very pleased to welcome Dominick Pangallo as my new chief of staff,” Driscoll wrote in a press release yesterday. “(He) brings the right combination of skills, training and familiarity with Salem. I am certain he will be a strong addition to our team in City Hall.”

Pangallo has degrees in theater and political science from Bates College and master’s degrees in political science and public administration from Suffolk University.

Silva, a city councilor in his hometown of Beverly, has worked in the mayor’s office for seven years. He was Driscoll’s campaign manager during her first campaign for mayor in 2005.
