---- — PEABODY — An 87-year-old Somerville man was hit by a car and seriously injured yesterday afternoon as he crossed Lowell Street near St. Adelaide Parish.

He was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck around 1 p.m., police said.

The man was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital, said police, who declined to identify him.

There was no update on the man’s condition last night, police said.

Police also did not release the name of the driver. No citations or charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation, police said.

A state police accident reconstruction unit was called in shortly after the crash. Traffic was temporarily detoured through the parking lot of the church, according to the city’s police log.
