Police warn about the thefts of metal from commercial trucks

---- — DANVERS — In the past week, four commercial vehicles were broken into and metal and tools used in construction were taken, police said.

The first theft happened sometime overnight between Tuesday, Jan. 23, and Wednesday, Jan. 24, when a commercial truck parked in the Holten Street area was broken into and tools and rolls of copper were stolen, police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt said. The theft was reported last Wednesday morning.

The next day, Thursday, Jan. 25, police received a report that a commercial vehicle parked on Garden Street had been broken into overnight, with someone making off with aluminum elbows, aluminum piping and metal hinges.

Sometime Saturday morning, two construction vehicles at Avalon Bay Drive were broken into, and $4,000 worth of copper wiring was stolen.

“Our concern is that someone might be targeting these commercial vehicles, and we just wanted to get the word out,” Bettencourt said.
