---- — PEABODY — Police say three men were arrested in two separate incidents involving knife assaults in a span of about 10 hours this weekend.
On Sunday, police responded to a 3:20 p.m. report of a fight in progress at 20 North Central St. and determined two men had assaulted each other with knives. Lt. William Cook said the men were arguing over an issue involving one of their girlfriends when they both reached for a knife and went at each other. Cook said bystanders held each back.
James Mwihia, 34, of 89 Elmwood Park, Apt. 12, Wollaston, and Charles Kagunye, 38, of 20 North Central St., Apt. 5, Peabody, were each arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
Both sustained minor abrasions and lacerations but refused medical treatment, Cook said.
At 1:01 a.m. that night, officers responded to a report that a man had threatened the bartender with a knife at the Portuguese-American War Veterans club at 103 Tremont St.
Gilmar Silva, 34, of 14 Sprague St., Apt. 1, Peabody, was found near the club and arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and destruction of property under $250.
Cook said Silva showed a knife at the bar because “he wanted to be served something else and the bartender refused.”
No injuries were reported.
