Two men arrested in Ipswich robbery

Police: One suspect, also charged with an attempted holdup, wearing GPS device at time

IPSWICH — Police say they’ve arrested two local men in connection to the robbery of the Richdale Convenience Store on Jan. 22 — and that one of them is also responsible for an attempted holdup of the Prime gas station last November.

Police arrested Jeury J. Fernandez-Sanchez, 20, of 29 Southern Heights, Ipswich, and Nathaniel B. Pugsley, 19, of 16 Mount Pleasant Ave., Ipswich, both on charges of armed robbery while masked, assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy, according to a press release from Lt. Daniel Moriarty.

The charges stem from the robbery of the Richdale Convenience Store, during which two masked men entered the 44 Market St. store shortly before 10:45 p.m., showed knives, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

Fernandez-Sanchez was additionally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to rob in relation to the attempted robbery of the Prime gas station at 7 Lord Square on Nov. 10, 2012.

During that incident, a man approached the door of the gas station shortly after it closed and showed a gun. The employee inside refused to open the door, and the man ran away without taking anything.

No injuries were reported in either of the incidents.

Both men were arraigned in Ipswich District Court yesterday. Pugsley is being held on $25,000 cash bail. Fernandez-Sanchez is being held on $50,000 cash bail for the Richdale Convenience Store holdup, on $50,000 cash bail for the Prime gas station attempted robbery, and for 60 days because he violated pretrial conditions set by Gloucester District Court, Detective Peter Dziadose said.

Dziadose confirmed that Fernandez-Sanchez was on pretrial probation — and wearing a court-mandated GPS ankle bracelet — at the time of both incidents. An officer in Gloucester said Fernandez-Sanchez had been arrested there on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in October 2012.
