---- — BEVERLY — America might run on Dunkin’, but police are looking for a man who ran away from Dunkin’ on Monday night.

Police said a man tried to rob the Dunkin’ Donuts at 188 Cabot St., right across the street from the police station and City Hall, but fled when the clerk walked to the back of the store and called police.

Officers were told that a man walked into the store at 6:47 p.m., threw a black bag at the clerk and told the clerk to fill it. The suspect said he had a knife, though he never produced one, and ordered everyone in the store to get down on the floor.

Police said the clerk looked at the suspect, then walked to the back of the store and called police.

“At that time, the suspect grabbed the bag back, ran out of the store and up Broadway,” police said.

The suspect did not get any money from the business, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call the police station at 978-922-1212, or submit a tip online at beverlypd.org/webtips.html or through the Beverly Police MyPD smartphone app.
