Beverly police looking for purse-snatchers

BEVERLY — Police are looking for two people who snatched a purse from a shopping cart at the Stop & Shop on Elliott Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Police received a report of the incident around 12:30 p.m., according to a press release from Officer Mike Boccuzzi. A woman said she had left her blue Coach purse in a shopping cart after leaving the store, then returned about 15 minutes later to retrieve it — but it was gone.

Officers were able to obtain security footage of two suspects who left the store with the purse. One appears to be a woman with dark hair and a dark jacket; the other is a younger man with a dark jacket.

The purse contained about $20 and a bank card, Boccuzzi said.

Anybody able to identify the individuals can contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 978-921-6046 or Crime Analysis Unit at 978-605-2522.
