Man pulled from YMCA pool dies

SALEM — A 47-year-old Lynn man died almost three days after being pulled from a swimming pool at the YMCA on Leggs Hill Road.

Igor Fokin died Thursday at 10:45 a.m. at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a spokeswoman for the hospital said yesterday.

Fokin was swimming laps at the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA around 9:15 p.m. on Monday, June 3, when he apparently suffered some kind of medical incident. A lifeguard spotted him in the shallow end of the pool and noticed he had stopped moving forward, according to the Y.

Two lifeguards on duty began CPR and attached a defibrillator. A doctor who had been working out at the facility also assisted, a Y official said. Paramedics arrived shortly after and transported Fokin to the hospital.

No cause of death was given.
