SALEM — A 16-year-old boy was arrested last night after he was found with a stolen, loaded gun.
The Salem teen was found with a .38-caliber automatic handgun with a live round in the chamber, according to the police report.
Police learned the gun was reported stolen out of Marblehead after checking the gun's serial number.
The teen was charged with carrying a firearm without being licensed, unlawful possession of ammunition and receiving stolen property.
Patrolmen Derek Sears and Rafael Gonzalez made the arrest after they spotted the juvenile and two other 16-year-old boys walking down the street and smelling of freshly burned marijuana. The police saw one of the boys making "furtive movements" toward his left-side jeans pocket, police said.
Gonzalez immediately grabbed the teen and placed his hands on the cruiser, and they heard the sound of metal hitting the ground. The patrolmen looked down and saw the black handgun.
Police also found $20 worth of marijuana on one of the other teens and two "blunts," cigar wrappers filled with marijuana, on the boy who had the gun.
