PEABODY — Peabody police are searching for two male suspects who allegedly broke into a Central Street apartment early this morning and fought with two residents, at one point showing a handgun.

Detective Michael Crane said in a press release that patrol officers responded to a basement apartment at 39 Central St. around 1 a.m. on a report of a home invasion.

Crane said a 26-year-old man told police he was entering his apartment when he was confronted by two men who then forced their way inside. A struggle ensued between the resident, the two suspects and another occupant of the residence. Police say a handgun was shown during the struggle.

The suspects fled the scene on foot. A state police K-9 unit was called in to track the men, but they were not found.

Crane said the residents were taken to Salem Hospital with injuries from the struggle — one had a cut to his torso from a fall and the other complained of a shoulder injury.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call the station at 978-538-6364. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.peabodypolice.org, via Tip411 or the MyPD smartphone app.
