Middleton man arrested in connection with early morning shooting

MIDDLETON — A 24-year-old Middleton man has been arrested on charges in connection with a shooting that took place outside his home on Liberty Street early this morning, police Chief James DiGianvittorio said.

Michael MacMullin of 45 Liberty St. was arrested on a warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with attempt to commit murder and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, the chief said.

MacMullin remains at Beverly Hospital under guard this evening after he was shot in the arm this morning. Police obtained a search warrant to search the property this evening, DiGianvittorio said.

Police responded to the home at 6:10 a.m. after multiple reports of gunshots heard from the property. On arrival, police found one man shot in the "torso area" on the ground. MacMullin fled the scene and was later found inside a nearby home, DiGianvittorio said.

The name, age and city of the victim is not being released.

The shooting remains under investigation. DiGianvittorio would not comment on a possible motive.
