Man faces charges in Peabody crash

PEABODY — A driver is in good condition but faces charges of drunken driving and driving to endanger after a crash Friday evening on Warren Street, according to police.

Charles E. Sanphy III, 24, of 162 Willow Road, Apt. 9, Nahant will be summonsed to court on those charges and driving with a suspended license.

Police received multiple calls for a motor-vehicle accident with injuries and people trapped inside a car at 50 Warren St. at 11:55 p.m. The accident, which also damaged a utility pole, involved a 2010 Mazda3 driven by Sanphy. Also with him were Mary M. Mackey, 1 Highland Ave., Nahant, and John Gay, 29 Clinton St., Lynn.

The Fire Department was called to free those trapped in the car. The driver and his passengers were all taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Sanphy was listed in good condition at Mass. General last night, while Mackey and Gay were discharged on Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
