‘Salute to Veterans’ book launch parties set

The North of Boston Media Group, including the Gloucester Daily Times, invites veterans, their friends, families and the general public to the launch of the new coffee table book, “North of Boston: Salute to Veterans.”

The events will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, in Beverly and Friday, Dec. 13, in North Andover. The Thursday event will take place at the Salem News office, 32 Dunham Road, Beverly. The Friday event will be at the Eagle-Tribune office, 100 Turnpike St., North Andover. Please note that the date of the North Andover event has been changed.

Veterans of all wars and anyone with an interest in the rich history of the North of Boston area can use this time to network, exchange stories and sign one another’s books. World War II veteran Morley Piper will speak at the events about his experience on D-Day, as well as his reflections on the war during his journalism career. Publisher Karen Andreas and Editor Tracey Rauh also will make remarks. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

“North of Boston: Salute to Veterans” features photos and stories from hundreds of local veterans from the Civil War through the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. North of Boston Media Group reached out to the public and received an overwhelming response from veterans and their families, and the group hopes to continue in this spirit with the launch events.

“The process of bringing ‘Salute to Veterans’ to fruition has been remarkably rewarding for everyone involved,” Rauh said. “What I found most gratifying was meeting so many heroes from our own communities. These individuals gave so much of themselves for our country. It was an honor to meet them at our photo scanning sessions in the summer, and I’m very, very excited to meet even more veterans at our events next week.”
