Somebody reported at 12:45 p.m. that the speed trailer at West Street and Sapphire Avenue had read 55 mph after a Ford Explorer had gone by. An officer found the vehicle and spoke to the man who had been operating it; he admitted “messing around” and trying to see “how high” he could get the readout to go. He was given a verbal warning.
An 85-year-old woman was transported to Salem Hospital after a 12:09 p.m. report that her son had found her in a “semiconscious state” and that she taken her entire week’s pills.
Police and the Fire Department responded to a Longview Drive address after a 5:34 p.m. report that there was fire on a roof. “Homeowner was able to put garden hose to roof to put out,” wrote police later. The Fire Department was investigating.
A female reported at 7:32 p.m. that she and her friends had seen somebody in a gray pickup truck dump “lobster shells and rib bones” in the water near Ocean Avenue.
A Jersey Street resident reported at 3:24 a.m. that there was an “oxygen-eating gas” in his house.
Police received a 3:57 p.m. reported that a hawk had sustained injuries after it flew into the front door of 7 Barnstable Road. An officer determined it was actually a falcon and that it had subsequently flown to a tree in “okay condition.”
A woman at Sutton and Beckett streets complained at 4:25 p.m. that her neighbors were constantly “loud with parties and children running around in diapers,” according to the log. An officer wrote: “I advised her it is only 4:24 p.m. now, I would send an officer to check and see it if constitutes a disturbance.” Later: “Officer reports three men sitting on chairs and one child. There is no disturbance at this time.”
