Man struck by car is in good condition

SALEM — The 80-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle on his way to Mass last week has been upgraded to good condition, a Mass. General Hospital spokesperson said last night.

Donald T. Wark was in the crosswalk in front of St. Anne’s rectory on Jefferson Avenue about 8:50 a.m. Thursday morning when he was struck by a vehicle traveling toward Loring Avenue.

Wark, who had been scheduled to be a reader at the church’s 9 a.m. Mass, sustained leg and arm injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

The driver of the vehicle claimed she had been blinded by sunlight and was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Good condition means vital signs are stable and within normal range, the patient is conscious and comfortable, and all indicators are “excellent,” said Kory Zhao, a public affairs officer at Mass. General Hospital.
