Man back in jail after multiple reports of abuse

SALEM — A Revere man who has already gone to jail four times for beating the same woman and was awaiting trial in an August assault is being held without bail on charges that he again abused and threatened the same woman two more times, including an incident on Christmas Eve.

Michael Daley, 27, began beating the woman during an argument on Dec. 24, during which he pinned her down and tried to get her phone to stop her from calling police, prosecutor Michelle DeCourcey told a Salem District Court judge yesterday.

He punched the woman in the face and told her "he was going to light her up like a Christmas tree," DeCourcey told Judge Michael Lauranzano.

Salem police had obtained a warrant for him on Jan. 15, but he hadn't been arrested when he allegedly beat the woman again, shoving her into a bed and pinning her down.

DeCourcey said Daley has served committed jail time four times since 2008 for domestic abuse on the same victim. He was out on bail pending trial in an August incident in Beverly in which he grabbed the woman's shoulders and threatened her.

She filed a motion seeking to have him held without bail as a danger to the woman.

Defense lawyer Chris Beares said Daley denies the allegations.

A hearing on the prosecutor's request is scheduled for Feb. 22. Until then, Daley remains held at Middleton Jail.
