Salem: SUN Foreclosure Prevention Program, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Salem Five Bank, community room, 210 Essex St. Boston Community Capital and North Shore Community Development Coalition co-host the Stabilizing Urban Neighborhoods Foreclosure Prevention Program. Learn about the SUN program initiative and its effect on the housing industry in the region. Hear an overview of the application processes and procedures, eligibility, rates and terms, and case studies of homeowners in the region who, after facing foreclosure, were able to buy back their homes at a mortgage they could afford. Swampscott: Sir John Humphrey House, open house, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 99 Paradise Road. The Swampscott Historical Society’s Trails & Sails program, sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Area. This historic first period house will be open free of charge to the general public. Guided tours will be led by several Historic Society members.

Salem: American History We Didn’t Learn in School, 10 a.m., Explorers Lifelong Learning Institute, 10 Federal St. Dr. Stefan Schindler, Woodrow Wilson Fellow and visiting lecturer in philosophy at Salem State University, will discuss how the system of education has omitted some lessons of history. Open to the public. Donations accepted from nonmembers in attendance.

Salem: Public Gallery Talk: Russian Spoken Here, noon, Peabody Essex Museum, East India Square. PEM staff member Victoria Glazomitsky offers a tour in Russian of Fabergé Revealed: From the Collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Glazomitsky was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and first encountered Fabergé’s work during visits to The State Hermitage Museum. Reservations by Sept. 26. Meet at information desk.
