Investigation leads to arrest on heroin charges

SALEM — A month-long investigation using both surveillance techniques and undercover police work has led to the arrest of a Boston Street man on two counts of distributing heroin.

Juan B. Abreu, 42, 79 Boston Street, was arrested on Pope Street, near the Walgreens, on Thursday evening. The investigation was launched in response to complaints from residents regarding “suspicious activity.”

Police said Abreu was arrested after making a sale to an undercover police officer. Police took custody of two cell phones and the suspect’s vehicle, while they seek a search warrant to look more closely at these items.

The investigation was led by detective Brian St. Pierre, with assistance from Capt. Thomas Griffin, detective Lt. Stephen Bona, detectives Charlene Sano, Eric Connolly and Daniel Tucker, Sgt. David Tucker and Patrolman Dennis Luti.
