Woman faces drug charges

GLOUCESTER — A Beverly woman was arrested yesterday morning on drug possession charges after police found her passed out in her parked car.

Melanie J. Mazzone, 36, of 6 School St., Beverly, is being charged with illegal possession of a Class B substance after police found Klonopin pills in her purse.

Police were called to Washington Street near the corner of Centennial Avenue on reports that a woman was passed out in her vehicle. When police arrived, they unsuccessfully tried to wake the driver, later identified as Mazzone, on two occasions before succeeding on the third try. According to police reports, Mazzone's eyes were bloodshot and glossy, and she appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The officers asked if they could search Mazzone's purse, which she allowed. Police found a vial with several Klonopin pills and OxyContin pills, Mazzone had a prescription for the OxyContin but not the Klonopin, according to police reports.
