BEVERLY — Police and firefighters were busy yesterday with motor vehicle crashes within hours of each other.
Emergency crews responded to the first crash involving a GMC Jimmy and a green Ford Contour at 50 Lothrop St., near Dane Street Beach.
The crash around 3 p.m. resulted in the three occupants of the Contour being taken to Beverly Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, an adult passenger and a toddler were taken by Northeast Regional Ambulance to the hospital.
Police said the Contour pulled out of a small parking lot on Lothrop Street when the sedan collided with the sport utility vehicle.
About an hour later, crews responded to a second crash, this time involving a motorcycle.
David Duncan of Saugus witnessed the crash as he waited for a tow truck on the side of the highway, between Exits 20 and 21.
His own Nissan had broken down, and Duncan said two cars involved in a "fender bender" were pulled over behind his car.
Duncan said the motorcycle was in the travel lane when it swerved to the passing lane and struck the corner of a car. The motorcycle spilled in the middle of the highway.
Duncan and the drivers of the two other cars on the side of the road ran to the motorcyclist and urged him to remain on the ground.
The motorcyclist got up on his own and had only scrapes and bruises, Duncan said.
The motorcyclist was taken by Northeast Regional Ambulance to the hospital, according to Beverly fire Lt. Don Philpot.
None of the names of those involved in either of the accidents was available yesterday.
