Oil leaking into a home's basement on Central Street was made into a neighborhood problem when the building's sump pump pushed the oil out onto the street. This process created what police said was a 100-yard spill. The incident was reported at 11:21 a.m. and taken care of by the Department of Public Works.

A parent reported seeing graffiti on Gerry Playground at 3:01 p.m. on Stramski Way. This parent said the graffiti included swastikas. The presence of swastikas could not be verified with police by deadline.

Peabody

Tuesday

A pedestrian was struck by a car on Bowditch Street and taken to Salem Hospital at 3:04 p.m.

A Bowditch Street resident said $1,200 in computer equipment was stolen from his house. The incident was reported at 6:40 p.m.

Wednesday

Joseph Hussien, 48, of 148a Washington St. in Peabody, was charged with domestic assault and battery at 1:05 a.m. at the above address.

A car parked on Walnut Street at 12:23 p.m. was keyed on both its passenger and driver's sides.

Beverly

Tuesday

When fire officials arrived on scene at 6:21 p.m., an oven fire at a Bayberry Lane residence had already been extinguished.

Michael A. Jones, 41, of 29 Hillcrest Ave. in Beverly, was charged with assault and battery at 8:15 p.m. on Hillcrest Avenue.

A woman heard the "handle of her back door being shaken" and then "saw a figure in dark clothing at the door running off." Police arrived at 11:08 p.m. to investigate the incident on Landers Drive.

Wednesday

Police located a stolen iPhone from the group home on Essex Street at 2:33 p.m.

Danvers

Tuesday

Lucinda Lopez, 18, of 151 Lauton St. in Lynn and Andina Rodriguez, 25, of 151 Lawton Ave. in Lynn, were charged with shoplifting at 5:38 p.m. from the Savers Value Village on Endicott Street.

Wednesday

Checks were reported stolen at 10:39 a.m. on Ash Street.

Danielle Scherri, 24, of 34 Grant St. in Beverly, was charged with larceny over $250, and Kristina Adams, 25, of 20 Ropes St. in Beverly, was charged with larceny over $250 at 1:56 p.m. at Kohl's on Independence Way.

Victor Foresta, 28, of 24 Hazel St. in Salem, was charged with larceny over $250 on charges of stealing from Kohl's on Independence Way.

Jewelry, collateral and the sale of a vehicle were the subject of a dispute between two parties on Harbor Street at 5:16 p.m. Both parties gave their side to police, who replied that the matter appeared to be civil in nature.

An officer walking by an Essex Street apartment smelled marijuana and knocked on the door. The officer asked the occupant to hand the drugs over, to which she replied, "no," according to police reports. She did not allow the officer into her home and told the officer she smoked for medicinal purposes. She was issued a city ordinance citation. The incident occurred at 6:12 p.m.

Robert C. Satterwhite, 46, of 501 Washington St. in Lynn, was charged with assault and battery on Heritage Drive at 6:29 p.m.

A woman reported an issue of harassment to police at 6:51 p.m. on Wilson Street. She said for the last "two or three weeks" a car has been periodically following her around and that she had received problematic phone calls. She did not have a license plate number to provide to police, who advised her to call 911 if the car followed her again.

A screaming and intoxicated woman was eventually placed into protective custody by police after she claimed that someone had stolen her purse at 8:16 p.m. on Palmer Street.

Wednesday

A woman said that as she was recovering from surgery she hired someone to run errands for her. At times, she allowed this person to use her credit card. During a conversation with the bank, the victim was told about almost $750 in charges that she said she did not authorize or make on the card. When the ex-employee was contacted by police, she began talking about the credit card purchases before the officer could begin to ask her questions, police said. The ex-employee said she was authorized to make all charges and had mailed the card back to her former employer before she left for Florida around the end of January. Police will issue her a summons on charges of false use of a credit card over $250 and larceny from a person 60 years or over.

The operator of a 2007 black SUV said the car just wouldn't stop at 11:19 a.m. when she was trying to pull into a parking space at the TJ Maxx on Traders Way. The prolonged acceleration rammed the BMW over a rock in the median and into a 2010 Honda, which was parked in front of where the BMW was trying to stop. The second vehicle suffered substantial front-end damage, and the BMW was found "hung up on a rock" when police arrived. No injuries were reported.

Charles Hammond, 20, 300 Willow St., Hamilton was arrested at 12:41 a.m. on Route 128 by officer Chris Machain on charges of being under 21 and having alcohol, resisting arrest, possession of a class A substance and two counts of possession of a class B substance. Hammond was the passenger in a motor vehicle stop.

Robert Howarth, 47, 435 Bay Road, Hamilton, was arrested at 2 a.m. at his address by officer Andrew Neill and Sgt. Ken Nagy on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
