Police/fire

(Continued)

Wednesday

Traffic was delayed on Route 128 in the later afternoon as police and the Fire Department responded to three accidents on the highway, none of which resulted in significant injuries, according to a firefighter. The first accident occurred just north of the Route 62 exit on Route 128 southbound, the second by Hollywood Hits on Route 128 northbound and the third on Route 128 northbound by Route 62. The second and third accidents each resulted in a person being transported to Beverly Hospital, said the firefighter, but those hospitalizations were precautionary and not the result of injuries.

A 61-year-old man was transported to an undisclosed Boston-area hospital by MedFlight after he sustained significant injuries from a fall down a staircase inside a private residence, a firefighter said. The helicopter landed at Highlands Elementary School at about 5:30 p.m.
