Coast Guard suspends search for missing fishermen

LUBEC, Maine (AP) — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for two urchin fishermen who remain missing after their boat went down in Cobscook Bay in eastern Maine near the Canadian border.

The 32-foot Bottom Basher was reported missing with three fishermen aboard Tuesday night after it failed to return to its home port of Lubec. The body of one of the men was recovered Wednesday.

The Coast Guard says searchers also found part of the boat's hull marked with its state registration number, along with lifejackets marked with the vessel's name. The search was suspended at sunset Thursday.

Counting this week's sinking, six men have died in the waters off Lubec in less than a year. A periwinkle harvester drowned in December, and two fishermen drowned in April when their boat sank.
