Marblehead — Paul A. deNapoli, 89, of Marblehead, MA, passed peacefully from Alzheimer’s with his children by his side on February 15, 2014. Born in Newton, MA, he was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis C. deNapoli and the late Katherine V. deNapoli. Paul leaves behind his son, Paul (Frederick) deNapoli; his daughter, Dyan deNapoli; his sister, Ann Regan; his companion, Ann Hawthorn-Bouras; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
After serving as an aircraft mechanic in the Army Air Force in WWII, Paul graduated from Northeastern, was chief engineer at Hayden Harding & Buchanan in Boston, and co-founded Costello Lomasney & deNapoli (CLD) in Manchester, N.H.
An accomplished sailor and licensed captain, Paul was instrumental in founding Marblehead’s Ensign, Soling, and Etchells classes. He instructed blind sailors, placed 2nd in the J/30 North American championships, and served as commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club. Paul was an equally accomplished skier, turning the boards into his 80’s.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.
