Vera (Sidor) Smith, 96


Randolph — Vera (Sidor) Smith, age 96 years, wife of the late John J. Smith, died on Tuesday afternoon, December 10, 2013, at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Randolph. Born in Boston at City Hospital on May 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anastasia (Horoszak) Sidor. She had been a resident of Marblehead for many years, until moving with her daughter, Eleanor in Randolph a few years ago.

Vera attended Boston Trade School where she learned her skills as a stitcher. She put her talents to good use and built her career as a stitcher for the Green Cross Mattress Company where she worked her entire career. When she started with the Company, they were located in Boston, and at the time of her retirement in 1979, they were located in Medford.

Mrs. Smith was a quiet person and enjoyed the company of a few close friends. With her friends, she loved playing Bingo. She had worked so hard during her career; she very much enjoyed relaxing during her retirement.

Surviving her are her two children, Eleanor Dares and her husband, Harry, of Randolph, James Smith and his wife, Marie, of Mashpee; her daughter-in-law, Carol Smith of Marblehead; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Robert and Richard Smith and sister of the late Michael Sidor.

ARRANGEMENTS: Mrs. Smith’s Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. Interment following Mass will be held at Waterside Cemetery, West Shore Dr., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. There are no visiting hours at Mrs. Smith’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
