Adelaide (Pelkey) Marquis


Salem — Adelaide (Pelkey) Marquis of Salem, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 12, 2013, in Salem Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Marquis.

Adelaide was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, and was the daughter of the late Felix and Alice (Gallagher) Pelkey. A resident of Salem for over 70 years, Adelaide worked for many years at the Bridal Shoppe in Salem, and later for Salem Hospital until her retirement. She was an active member and volunteer with the Salem Council on Aging.

Surviving her are two daughters, Germaine Saindon and her husband, Philip, of Salem, with whom Adelaide lived with for the past 17 years, and Judith Bettencourt of Peabody; one son, Richard Marquis and his wife, Kimberly, of Missouri; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are private, and are under the direction of the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Council on Aging, 5 Broad St., Salem, MA 01970.
