Maria (Cordeiro) Estrela, 78


Peabody, MA — Maria (Cordeiro) Estrela,78, of Peabody, passed away Monday afternoon, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Joao S. Estrela.

Maria was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, on February 18, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Mariano and Luiza (Trindade) Cordeiro. She was raised and educated in Sao Miguel, until moving to Peabody 44 years ago with her husband.

She worked at Salem Hospital for 34 years prior to her retirement. She was also a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She enjoyed cooking an assortment of food for her family and sewing many types of things. One of the most important things to her was, not only her loving family, but taking long walks with her twin sister.

Besides her loving husband, she is survived by two daughters, one son, eight loving grandchildren, three great-grandsons, her beloved twin sister, one brother, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. She was also predeceased by a brother.

She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 20, at 8 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Avenue, Peabody, at 9 a.m. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
