Kevin R. Kidney, 65

Dracut — Kevin R. Kidney, 65, of Dracut, formerly of Salem, beloved husband of Patricia (Whelan) Kidney, died peacefully on Sunday December 29, 2013, in the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, Reading, surrounded by his family.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (White) Kidney. Raised and educated in Salem, he was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1967, and graduate of a Boston Drafting School.

Honorably discharged, Kevin proudly served his country for six years as a member of the Army National Guard.

With a career spanning over 40 years in the roofing business, Kevin joined the JB Kidney Roofing Co., first working under his father’s tutelage, and then, as the owner of the company. Kevin’s work was his life and he enjoyed the many friends and relationships he fostered throughout his career.

Kevin loved to spend time with his family and friends, traveling, skiing and participating in many pool parties. He was an avid golfer and was a highly skilled craftsman.

He was a loving husband and father, and he will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving him in addition to his wife, Patricia, are his two sons, Scott Kidney and his wife, Kim, of Salem, and Ryan Kidney and his wife, Kristen, of Vermont; two brothers, Robert Kidney and his wife, Arlene, of Beverly, and James Kidney of Danvers; a sister, Mary O’Leary of Salem; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Salem/Peabody line, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours in the funeral home will be on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Kevin’s memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Fund, c/o Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114. Burialwill be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Parking is available in the church parking lot across the street from the funeral home.
