Beverly — Jean M. (Sutherland) Grimes, beloved wife of Raymond J. Grimes, died in her sleep at her home in Beverly, Massachusetts, after a long illness. Jean was born in 1928 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, the daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Fifi) Sutherland. Married in 1947, she came to the United States under the War Brides Act. She became a United States citizen in 1976.
During her life, she was an avid gardener, a talented painter, and enjoyed music and travel, but her greatest joy was her large and loving family.
She was the mother of five children, Michael and Alvin, now deceased, Charles and David Grimes, and Louise Sherburne. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren, Raymond, Timothy, Scott, Stephen, Alexander and Brianna Grimes, and Daniel Sherburne. Two other grandchildren, Elizabeth Grimes and Brian Richards, predeceased her. Her surviving siblings are Patricia Zumbrook of Woodbridge, Virginia, Elizabeth Hosam, and David and Bernard Sutherland, all of Trinidad. Her brother, Desmond, predeceased her.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch Street, Beverly, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in North Beverly Cemetery.
