Foxboro, MA — Sam G. Berns, 17, died on January 10, 2014, following a lifelong battle with Progeria. He was the beloved son of Dr. Scott Berns and Dr. Leslie Gordon; grandson of Alice and Lewis Berns of Connecticut, and Barbara and Burt Gordon of Beverly, Mass.; nephew of Lori Gordon and John Ledoux, Audrey Gordon and Richard Reed, Karen and David Betournay, Daniel and Kara Berns; and cousin of Ryan, Sarah, Jason, Benjamin, Nadia, Syetta, Paige, and Skyler.
Sam Berns was a junior at Foxboro High School in Foxboro, Mass., where he achieved highest honors and was recently selected to be a member of the National Honor Society. Sam was a percussion section leader in his high school band, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a highlighted speaker at Tedx Mid-Atlantic in 2013, and is featured in the documentary "Life According to Sam."
Sam teaches us that every day is a gift, and that we can achieve anything we set out to do. Through his courage, spirit, kindness, and love, Sam will forever inspire those who have come to know him.
