Jean G. (Williams) Shepard, 86

Marblehead — Jean Gilbert (Williams) Shepard, 86, of Marblehead, died on Sunday, June 9, at the Lafayette Nursing Home, with her family by her side.

Born, raised and educated in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Hariette Alice (Pedrick) Williams. She graduated from Marblehead High School, Class of 1944.

Jean then became a telephone operator in Marblehead, and also worked with her brother-in-law, Damon Tucker, in his toy store. Later, she was employed by the National Grand Bank for more than 20 years, until her retirement in 1991.

A former coach in the Lassie Softball League, she enjoyed oil painting, candlepin bowling, and most of all, being a mom.

She is survived by two children, Cynthia Shepard Hendy and her husband, William, of Plaistow, N.H., and Stephen Shepard and his wife, Kimberly, of Marblehead; a brother, Ralph Williams of Detroit, Mi.; four grandchildren, Suzanne Newman and her husband, Matt, Terri-Lyn Baron and her husband, Ben, Shawn Shepard, and Tyler Shepard; three great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Grandma the Great.” She was predeceased by four brothers, Gilbert, John, Russ, and Donald; and two sisters, Eleanor Tucker and Hattie Fader.

ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14 at 11 a.m., in Waterside Cemetery, West Shore Drive, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. At the family’s request there are no visiting hours.
