Sister Louise Barry (formerly Sister Louise de Marillac), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died January 30, 2012 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ at the age of 87.
Sister Louise was born in Salem, MA, the daughter of William and Rose (Doherty) Barry. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 24, 1947 and was a member for 64 years. Sister Louise Barry received her B.S. in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ.
She served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at Immaculate Conception School, Elizabeth; St. Bernard School, Plainfield; Saint Cecilia School, Kearny; and Our Lady of the Visitation School, Paramus. Sister Louise served at the College of Saint Elizabeth as a secretary to the Assistant Dean of Studies and served as secretary and medical records supervisor at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, New Haven, CT. She then served as Administrative Assistant at the Archdiocese of Newark
She was a secretary at Saint Mary High School, Elizabeth, a secretary/librarian at Immaculate Conception School, Elizabeth, and a librarian at Marylawn of the Oranges, South Orange, NJ. She then volunteered at St. Vincent Nursing Home before retiring to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2004 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: The wake for Sister Louise will be held in Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, NJ at 9:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dangler Funeral Home, Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476.
