Ipswich — James S. Blessington, 87, husband of Ruth E. (McIntosh) Blessington of Birch Lane, Ipswich, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, in the Golden Living Center, Gloucester, following his long illness.
Born in Lynn July 1, 1926, son of the late James B. and Florence (Stewart) Blessington, he was raised in Marblehead, a 1943 graduate of Marblehead High School. As a young man he went to work at his father’s jewelry store in Lynn. He soon went into the trophy business, Blessington Trophies, manufacturing and selling trophies in Topsfield for over sixty years.
Jim will fondly be remembered for his love of hockey, sarcastic wit and his smoldering wet cigar.
In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, he is survived by a son, Stewart Jay Blessington and his wife, Karen, of Ipswich; a daughter, Barbara Ann Bucklin of Ipswich and her fiancé, Joe Pace; grandchildren, Stewart, Kate and Sarah Blessington, Alexander and Caleb Bucklin; a brother, Roderick Blessington and his wife, Deborah, of Topsfield; a sister, Marilyn Whalley and her husband, William, of E. Sandwich; Carol Gaffney, companion of his late son, Scott Blessington, of Georgetown and several nephews and nieces.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial reception will be held on Sunday, October 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the VFW Post 1093 Function Room, 110 County Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
