Mr. George L. Coleman 89, husband of Olive (Hall) Coleman, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at the Essex Park Health Care Center in Beverly.
Born in Easton, he was the son of the late William P. and Ann (Lyons) Coleman. His family moved to Beverly when he was two years old, and he was a member of the 1940 graduating class of Beverly High School where he was known for his football cheerleading activities and dramatic stage skills.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Air Corps and U.S. Air Force as an officer and bombardier aboard B-17 and B-29 Heavy Bombers.
Following the Air Force, George earned a degree in business administration from Northeastern University.
Mr. Coleman had spent 35 years with Bay Bank and Trust Company (now Bank of America), achieving the title of vice-president and marketing officer.
A King Lion of the Beverly Lions Club, he was also a member of the American Legion Post #0331 of Beverly.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra Bahia of Beverly, two grandchildren, Laura and Tracey and several nieces and nephews including Donna (Coleman) Welsh and her husband, Walter, who have been quite supportive through the years. He was also the brother of the late Charles E. and Roger W. Coleman.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location), Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
