Durham, N.H. — Mrs. Irene (Teague) Vrettos, 94, of Durham, N.H., formerly of Boxford and Topsfield, Mass., beloved wife of the late Louis Vrettos, died on Thursday, January 30, 2014.
Born in Arpan, S.D., she was the daughter of the late Archie and Versa (Whitlock) Teague. She was raised and educated in South Dakota. She continued her education, earning her business degree in Chillicothe, Miss.
Mrs. Vrettos had been employed for a number of years in the Masconomet School District as the high school guidance secretary and as the secretary to the president at the former Bryant Macintosh College.
A longtime resident of Boxford and Topsfield, prior to moving to Durham, Irene was a member of the Congregational Church of Topsfield and the First Church Boxford, Congregational, where she was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed many activities with her friends, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Irene lived in many places in the U.S. over the years, and was able to travel extensively, including an opportunity to live in Greece for five years with her husband, Lou, before retiring and moving to Largo, Fla.
Irene is survived by her sons, Herb L. Vrettos and his wife, Dorrie, of East Wakefield, N.H., and Greg A. Vrettos and his wife, Janet, of Durham; her grandchildren, Tim Vrettos, Amy Lowd, Damon Vrettos, and Adrienne Salane; her six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also the sister of the late Roger and Howard Teague.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Congregational Church of Topsfield, East Common St., Topsfield, on Saturday, February 8, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Route 62, Danvers, will be on Friday, February 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Irene’s memory to the Mass General Cancer Center, c/o Development Office, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.
