Doris L. Dube, 84

Doris L. (Louf) Dube, 84 of Salem, died, peacefully in her sleep at home, Monday, January 30, 2012. She was the wife of Fernand J. Dube, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Omer J. and Merilda M. (Leclerc) Louf. A resident of Salem for all of her life, Doris was devoted to her family and her very large extended family. She was always there for anyone in the family who needed her. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Donald R. Dube of Toronto, Ontario, a sister, Jeannette M. Dionne of Salem, two grandchildren, Crystale A. Wozniak and her husband Adam of Peabody, and Matthew T. Verrette of Salem, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Verrette, and three brothers, Armand, Roger and Fernand Louf.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 8:30 am. to 10:30 am., at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.     Salem — Anthony Canio Civiello, age 80, husband of Mary Lucille McIntire of Salem, died in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, following a long illness.

    Born in Lynn, the son of the late Canio and Teresa (Cancellara) Civiello, he was educated at the Highland Elementary School and was a graduate of the Lynn Vocational School, in the Class of 1949. Mr. Civiello joined the Army Reserve in 1949 and was placed on active duty in 1952 during the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1954, Mr. Civiello remained on reserve duty until receiving his permanent discharge in 1960.

Arthur was the General Manager for Northeast Testing and Manufacturing in Beverly and during his spare time he loved to fish, however his greatest passion was the pride he took in his family and the time he spent with them, especially the summers and the holidays, which brought him the most joy.

She is also survived by her stepmother Louise Wirtz and half-brother Mark W. Purcell of Livermore, CA.

She was the wife of the late Thomas “Mickey” Maguire and Leo LeBlanc, and the daughter of the late Alfred and Helen (Therrien) Doucette. Born in Quebec, Canada, she lived in Lynn all her life. She was a graduate of St. Jeanne the Baptiste School, Class of 1952, and Continental Hairdressing School. Colette worked as a lunch aide at the Drewicz School in Lynn and for Witham Catering and the former Clam Shell in Lynn. She was a communicant of St. Pius V Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, working puzzles, playing cards and animals.

    Lois was born in Lynn, daughter of the late Robert H. Gilmore Sr. and Frances (Zinner) Gilmore of Lynn. Lois was a bartender for the Century House in Peabody for over 20 years. After she moved to Florida she owned and operated Gilmore Girls Cleaning of Naples with her sister for 10 years. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time reading on the beach.

She graduated from Lynn Classical High School, and then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Northeastern University.

  • Robert Demeritt, 67

    Leawood, KS — Robert (Bob) Wayne Demeritt, 67, of Leawood, KS, died May 14, 2012, at his home after a long illness. Bob was born May 9, 1945, in Peabody, MA, the third child of Harold and Edythe (Castle) Demeritt. He attended Peabody schools and Northeastern University before graduating in 1967 from the University of Michigan with a degree in Far Eastern Languages and Literature. He received his Master's Degree in Oriental Languages and Literature in 1975 from KU. In the 1970's he studied and taught in Taiwan and Japan. Upon his return to the United States, he worked as Director of International Relations and Continuing Education at JCCC. He married Mary Anne Vickery in 1978. He taught Chinese, Japanese, and history at the Barstow School for over 20 years. He brought enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and humor to the classroom. Bob was a man of many talents. Besides his mastery of several languages, he was a calligrapher, an excellent cook, an avid reader, a mentor to many, a wonderful listener, a great story teller, and a gracious host. Most of all, he was a steadfast friend and husband.

Bob served with the Army in Germany during the Viet Nam War. Once back home he worked in several different occupations, but primarily worked installing security alarm systems for which he earned the nickname "Squirrel."

After graduating from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, Betty continued her education and moved to Dayton, OH, where she worked as a secretary at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for several years before returning to Massachusetts and residing in Beverly.

    Sarasota, FL — Evalina M. (Rogers) Booth of Sarasota, FL, and Great Hill, Topsfield, MA, passed away on Wednesday, May 16th, at the age of 95. She was the wife of the late Harold C. Booth with whom she shared 72 years of marriage. She was born in Beverly, MA, September 12, 1916, to William and Jean Rogers. In later years she and her husband lived at Prides Crossing, MA, and Moultonboro, NH. In 1990 they became residents of Florida, living on Siesta Key, Sarasota. Mrs. Booth was a past Worthy Matron of Dianna Chapter of Eastern Star in Beverly, MA. She took up golf at the age of 50 and played well into her 80s. She and her husband were longtime members of Bald Peak Colony Club, Melvin Village, NH, and The Oaks, Laurel Oaks and Sunrise Country Clubs in Sarasota as well as the Sarasota Yacht Club. Evvie, as she was called by family and friends, was an avid knitter. She kept her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren well supplied with her beautiful work.

  • Hyman Ainbinder, 103

    Peabody — Hyman Ainbinder, 103, formerly of Peabody and Randolph died at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale on Monday, after a long illness.

    Born in Russia, he came as a 5-year-old with his family to the West End of Boston. After WWI, the family moved to Chelsea and then to Peabody. He worked at General Electric during WWII. After the war he worked with his father in the Peabody Kosher Meat Market and moved the store from Mill Street to Main Street in downtown Peabody. Hyman operated the store until he retired in 1971.Mr. Ainbinder was a longtime member of Cong. Sons of Israel and Temple Ner Tamid in Peabody where he assisted in Cantorial duties because he had a pleasant voice.

  • Beverly council rejects mayor's trash fee hike BEVERLY — Mayor Bill Scanlon's proposal to raise the trash fee this year has ended up in the trash heap.
    The City Council voted Monday night to keep the annual fee at $100 for residents and $300 for businesses, rejecting Scanlon's request for a 40 percent increase.
