Peabody — Stella G. Stathos, 88, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Aviv Centers for Living in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgia (Zarakas) Stathos. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1942.
Stella was an office manager for the city of Peabody at the Electric Light Plant for over 41 years before retiring in 1985. Stella also taught Sunday School for over 52 years at St. Vasilios Church.
Stella was a member of the Philoptochos Society, past Matron of the Eastern Star Victory Chapter in Marblehead, and was past district governor of the Daughters of Penelope. She also was an avid reader, loved dancing, listening to music and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her brother, James and his wife, Eileen Stathos; her sisters, Esther Crowell and Anne “Honey” and her husband, William Tsapatsaris, all of Peabody; her daughter, whom she never had, Claire Tsapatsaris of Peabody and by several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. Donations can be made in her name to the St. Vasilios Church Bell Tower Fund, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
