Middleton — Mrs. Ruth I. (Adams) Sgroi, 92, of Middleton, died January 25, 2013, at Star Farm Nursing Center in Burlington, Vermont. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Sgroi who died January 26, 1997.
Born in Andover, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary I. (Haddon) Adams, she was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and continued her studies at the Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston.
Mrs. Sgroi had been an employee with the Waltham Watch Company, the General Electric Company in Lynn, and prior to her retirement she had been secretary to the Superintendent of the Middleton School system for 13 years. A longtime resident of Middleton, Ruth was an active member in the Middleton Congregational Church who was a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, choir member and a member of the Women’s Fellowship. She loved children and was a devoted foster parent for many years as well as a den mother for the Middleton Cub Scouts. She loved to watch the parades from her porch and wave to all the children who knew her. A truly giving person she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her hospitality was a gift and a blessing to all.
Ruth is survived by her three sons, Arthur R. Sgroi and his wife, Carol of Albany, N.Y., Robert P. Sgroi and his friend, Jan of Salem, N.H., David M. Sgroi and his wife, Nancy of Bangor, Maine; her two daughters, Andrea J. Greeley and her husband, Brian of Jericho, Vt., Cindy Hoffman and her husband, Jeff of Middleton; her sixteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Adams and Olga Adams; and brother-in-law, Donald Almquist, and 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; all ten of her siblings, three nephews, a niece, and all her in-laws.
