Evelyn R. McDowell, 63


Salem — Evelyn Rebecca McDowell of Salem, age 62, died quietly on January 11, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in New York City on January 26, 1950, and grew up in Waldwick, N.J., and Swampscott.

Evelyn was a nurse for 35 years. She worked at Tufts New England Medical Center, as a bone marrow transplant nurse; at the Salem Visiting Nurse Association, where she created their hospice program; and at Lynn Hospital. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Beverly for more than 30 years, and served as a deacon and on the Visitation Committee. She loved animals and volunteered at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. Her life was one of giving of her time and talents to others. She had many friends and a close extended family, and she will be sorely missed.

Evelyn’s survivors include sisters, Janet McDowell of West Yarmouth, and Nancy Winter of Beverly; nephew David Winter of Snohomish, Wash., and his wife Lori Sackmann; niece Arlene Kilgore of Kennesaw, Ga., and her husband Hunter; and great-nephews, James and Liam Kilgore.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Saturday, February 2, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 9 Dane Street, Beverly (Downtown location).
