Ipswich, MA — Georgia McHugh beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a true gift to those who knew her, passed away peacefully at her home in Ipswich, on Thursday, March 27, 2014.
Georgia was born in Richmond, Va., where she spent much of her childhood before moving to Glendale, Calif. As a young woman, she lived in Winchester, Mass., where she graduated from high school. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Boston University, and taught art in Cohassett. She married Robert McHugh, also from Winchester, in 1956. She moved to Ipswich in 1963, where she and Bob raised six children, tended her garden, and shined her light on the world. She was a nationally accredited master flower show judge, chairman of the Massachusetts judges council, recipient of countless top design awards, including the prestigious John Taylor Arms, Marie Hancock, Pauline Bowden and Clair Richards awards. She was chairman of many flower shows, including the design division of the New England Spring Flower Show and the Topsfield Fair.
She was the inspiration to many. Her gentle guidance, grace and nurturing ways will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She leaves her children, Karen Calef, Leslie Moorhead, Robert Jr., Sean, David, and Christopher McHugh; also her brother, Milton; sister, Libby; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: All services are private. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Assisting the family is the Mackey Funeral Home, Danvers, Mass.
