Danvers, MA — Formerly of Swampscott, Mass., and Boynton Beach, Fla., Irving Henry Stepner entered into rest on April 7, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Weiss) for 72 years and devoted father of Sharyn Levine of Long Island and her late husband, Mark Levine, and Judith Harris and her husband, Herbert, of Peabody. He was the loving brother of Gerald Stepner of Peabody. He was also the cherished grandfather of Alyse Edwards, Lesley Azzinaro, Jonathan Power, and Jill Saccoccia; and the proud great-grandfather of Leah, Molly, Samantha, Sophia, and Olivia.
Irving, a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, owned three stores including Richmond Pharmacy on Eastern Avenue in Lynn, Mass. During his career, Irving was president and a board member of the State Pharmacist Association. Irving also spent time volunteering at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott; organizing activities and reading to the blind. A long-time member of the former Temple Israel in Swampscott, he served on its board and ushered during the High Holy Days for 17 years.
Later in life, Irving (known as Honey and Pooch to his family) started multiple social and current events groups in residential communities in both Massachusetts and Florida, bringing people together to meet and socialize while discussing important topics of the day. His greatest enjoyment was always his family, the theater, and his beloved Red Sox.
