Salem — Anna (Polemenako) Skouras, 100, of Salem, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Bertram House of Swampscott following a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of the late William Skouras, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John and Marianthe (Panagakos) Polemenako. Anna lived most of her life on Gallows Hill in Salem. She was employed by the Hunt Rankin Leather Company in Peabody until its closing, and then worked for an electronics company until she retired.
One of the highlights of Anna’s life was traveling to Greece with her husband. She was delighted to tour the many sites of their family’s homeland. Passionate about gardening, Anna loved to grow flowers and vegetables which she shared with her family and neighbors. A member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, she was an active member of the St. Vasilios Philoptochos. Anna loved the Greek traditions, especially celebrating her husband’s name day on New Year's Day, a festive day at her home attended by family and friends.
Anna was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. The last of 10 siblings, she was the sister of the late Catherine Mento, Stella Pramas, Beatrice Corum, James Polemenako, Peter Polemenako, Jane Walsh, John Polemenako, Frances Perry and Evelyn Lamoureaux.
Anna’s family would like to thank the staff at the Bertram House’s Reminiscence Unit for their kindness, care and support during her stay.
