David Richard Davis II, 58

Essex — Mr. David Richard Davis II, 58, of Essex, died Thursday, October 25, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.

Born and raised in Gloucester, he was the son of Barbara R. (Veno) Davis of Gloucester and Bradenton, Fla., and the late Arthur M. Davis. He received his education in the Gloucester school system and graduated from Gloucester High School, class of 1972.

Mr. Davis was the proprietor of the Old Yankee Fuel Company in Essex which he started over thirty years ago.

David had a great love for the outdoors, especially traveling to the western states. He enjoyed hunting in New Mexico, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. An “extreme skier,” he enjoyed his trips to British Columbia and Snowbird, Utah, he was on the first snowmaking team at Killington mountain in Vermont. David also had a love for the ocean where he enjoyed water skiing and captaining his speedboat, the “Yankee Doodle.” Being a motorcycle enthusiast, he loved riding his Harley and was also an avid golfer which encompassed his love for the outdoors.

Most of all, he was a loving and devoted father who brought joy into his children’s lives.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Emily Davis; a son, Colton Davis; and his former wife, Victoria (Mann) Davis, all of Ipswich; a sister, Faye Medina of Gloucester; three brothers, Roy Davis of Bradenton, Fla., Glenn Davis of Gloucester, and Lee Davis and his wife, Maureen of Salem and many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of David’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church, Essex, Saturday, November 24, at 2 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s honor to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Woodman's Scholarship fund or to the charity of one’s choice. Information and condolences at
